K-Drama Special

This year it can be said without a doubt that SBS has been dominating the k-drama ratings chart especially during their Wednesday/Thursday drama line-up.

Gu Family Book

I've just recently finished watching this drama after what felt like a long hiatus from when I first started watching it. This drama was a mixed-bag of good and bad. The story for the most part is interesting and to a degree endearing.Which tells the tale of a half-human and half gumiho (fox demon). Personally, I think the drama overstayed its welcome. I think it didn't need 24 episodes and could have easily wrapped up everything with either 20 or 21 episodes. At a certain point, I found myself caring more for Kang Chi's parents and their tragic love story over his own story. In fact, I'd much rather have had the drama focusing on the parents and not even bring the son into the equation. I love Lee Seung Gi as an actor and he did the best that he could with the character that he had to portray, but something about Kang Chi as a character just kinda rubbed me the wrong way.

I wished that there were more action scenes or something to spice things up a bit. I was really looking forward to Suzy's character Yeo Wool to be a bad-ass female warrior, and at times she did hold her own, but in the end she was reduced to somewhat of a damsel in distress. One major factor working in the favor of this k-drama was the ost which by the way was superb.

Verdict
This drama was kind of a hit or miss for me. I mean, it's watchable and I was able to successfully make it through all 24 episodes in one piece, but at times this drama made me so frustrated with some of the characters' actions. I'd much rather the story have been about Wol-Ryung and Seo hwa instead of focusing on their son Kang Chi.

Score: 7.5

I Hear Your Voice

Is this the real life? Or is this just fantasy? I fell so hard in love with this drama <3
This drama was just pure perfection all around. I can definitely see why this drama has been winning all of the awards of late and why it's become one of this year's popular-hit dramas. I don't want to give too much away but the story, ost, characters, and actors/actresses were superb. I have never fan-girled so frequently or have ever become so giddy like I did when I was watching this drama. After I started watching the lst episode I immediately became hooked.

Verdict
If you're in the neighborhood and need a k-drama to watch then look no further if you haven't watched this drama yet I highly recommend that you do. I'm sure you won't regret it except for the after-effects(k-drama withdrawal syndrome) once you finish the drama could become quite deadly...

Score: A well deserved 10

Autumn In My Heart

I finally finished this painful, dragging, and hard to watch drama. Whoever said that this drama was better than Winter Sonata is 100% wrong and it's not true. This drama was way worse than I could have ever imagined and it definitely doesn't deserve all of the praise that it gets. The only thing going for this drama is the soundtrack honestly. I usually don't have any trouble getting through a k-drama, but when it came to this one I did, but at least I did finish it in the long run unlike the horrible k-drama Mary Stayed Out All Night. At first, this drama lures you in with what promises to be a intricate and interesting story, but as you continue watching it you soon find out that's not the case.

Verdict

Steer clear from this drama and don't waste any of your time watching it and save yourself the trouble.

Stairway To Heaven

This k-drama was exceptional on many levels and a great watch indeed. This drama is essentially a modern take on the classic fairy tale Cinderella. From the acting, characters, settings, and the ost it's a perfectly thought out drama. It's 20 episodes long and the story concludes in a nicely paced fashion.

Verdict

If you're bored or need something good to watch I highly recommend this drama. It's entertaining to watch, the visuals a spectacular, and you might even find yourself tearing up a little along with the characters.

Winter Sonata

Contains SPOILERS!!!

I finally got around to watching one of the highly critically acclaimed k-dramas in history and I was not disappointed. I mean yeah, there was a lot of tears and crying and I think I've learned how to say I'm sorry in  Korean since you could practically make a montage of the multiple times the characters say that they're sorry in this drama. I can see why this drama is at the center of the Hallyu movement which is the spread of  Korean culture and entertainment. The story is heart-wrenching and moving and it even brought me to tears at the end, and I usually don't cry when I watch Asian dramas because it takes a lot for me to cry and in most Asian dramas it's been said and done before with there being a few exceptions. I really enjoyed watching this drama and even though it's 10+ years old it holds up really well.

The ost of this drama is superb and my top 3 favorite songs are:

1. Only You - Ryu
2. From the Beginning Until Now - Ryu
3. My Memory - Ryu

This drama really emphasizes how special your 1st love is and how painful it can be. The ending was great but I felt it was somewhat lacking and rather abrupt.

The 1st Shop of Coffee Prince

Not too long ago I finished watching this drama which is considered one of the must watch k-dramas around. It was pretty interesting and fun to watch overall. I share a special history with this k-drama because it's the 1st k-drama that I ever watched, but at the time I only watched the 1st episode of it only because I wasn't quite accustomed to k-dramas as back then I only watched j-dramas. It was the k-drama Boys Before Flowers that got me fully into k-dramas. As far as this drama goes yes, it does has some the common k-drama cliches such as love triangles, etc. One great aspect of the drama that I really enjoyed was the relationship between the workers or should I say "coffee princes" at the coffee house.

Book of the House of Gu

I am currently watching this K-drama called Gu Family Book and it's very good and entertaining. I've stayed away from K-dramas for quite some time because their extremely lengthy and pretty much K-dramas are filled with the same overused cliches, but this drama is very enlightening and kinda of in a weird way the Korean version of Inuyasha and if anything that is a major plus.
